JOEL MYERS USPTA PRO
An Australian native from Melbourne, Joel has competed and trained internationally in both North America and the Asia Pacific. A top ranked Australian junior player, Joel had the great opportunity to be personally mentored by many internationally acclaimed coaches including Nick Bollettieri and Pat Cash, and spent time training full time at their academies.
At age 16 Joel started teaching part time for Tennis Australia at Melbourne Park (The home of the Australian Open) and was heavily influenced by the top teaching professionals in the country. This experience teaching from an early age was intrumental in shaping the way Joel approaches his coaching today. Learning the value of being able to adapt to each players individual needs yielded great results for his students and also helped him in his own pursuit as a competitor.
In 2007 Joel accepted a 4 year scholarship to Point Loma Nazarene University as the teams #1 player and had one of the most successful athletic careers in the schools history. A 3 time NAIA All American (singles & doubles) Joel ended his career leading the Sea lions to their best ever showing at the NAIA national championship with a quarter final appearance in 2011 and a national ranking of #7. After receiving a BA degree in Psychology Joel chose to pursue his passion for tennis through the avenue of a career in coaching and in two years received the status of Elite tennis pro by the USPTA and became Tennis Director of both the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego and The Sheraton Hotel & Marina San Diego, as well as a contracted pro for the City of Coronado. Joel has a true love for the game and relishes the opportunity to work with people in developing and improving their tennis, from beginner to professional.
